Dr. Patel grew up in Orange County and graduated from University of California at Berkeley with honors with a degree in molecular cell biology with an emphasis on cell development.
During his undergraduate training he taught biology, volunteered at medical clinics, and was active participant in the Alumni Association and University Healthcare Worker program. He then attended the prestigious Cornell Medical College in New York City. During medical school he received various awards including the Papanicolaou Fellow in Anatomy Award.
After graduating from medical school he started his surgical internship at UCLA Medical Center. He then completed his orthopedic residency at Albert Einstein/ LIJ Medical Center in New York. During residency Dr. Patel presented several research papers at Orthopedic Research Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and various other academic meetings. He served as the team physician for professional league baseball, soccer, tennis and hockey athletes. He also was a clinical instructor in several national orthopedic courses for shoulder reconstructive procedures.
His interest in adult reconstruction led him to complete an additional year of fellowship training in joint reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania where he crafted his skills in complex adult reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Along with primary and revision joint reconstruction, his other clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, alternative bearings for joint reconstruction, CAS (computer assisted surgery), and orthobiologic applications in orthopedics surgery.
Dr. Patel holds two unique board certifications in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, along with a fellowship in adult reconstruction. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and Arthroscopic Association of North America. He is also Qualified Medical Examiner (Q.M.E) for the State of California Industrial Medical Council.
He is on Staff at Cedar Sinai Medical where he is also on the teaching faculty for orthopedic surgery. He also serves on the surgery executive committee at Olympia Medical Center.
