Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

La Peer Health Systems has a wonderful Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. Our physicians attended top medical schools and are distinguished surgeons in the Los Angeles area.

What makes La Peer’s plastic surgery department different from others is that we have surgeons who are facial plastic surgeons. This means they only do surgery on the head and neck, and have a great deal of experience with facial reconstruction and cosmetic procedures.

The surgeons at La Peer also have extensive experience working with patients from different ethnicities; they understand the proportions of different cultural faces and aesthetics. Their knowledge of ethnic aesthetics ensures the results of surgery will improve the patient's facial appearance while preserving ethnic identity.

The Department of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery also provides patient with excellent reconstructive work. There are many causes of facial deformity, ranging from disease to trauma to bad primary surgery. These deformities leave patients with functional and aesthetic damage. The La Peer surgeons are able to reconstruct a patients face to restore both function and form.

Surgical Procedures Available at La Peer Health Systems

Primary and revision rhinoplasty: Rhinoplasty is a procedure to either aesthetically or functionally change the nose. Rhinoplasty is traditionally done to reduce a bump on the nose, reshape the tip of the nose, or to reshape the nose after it has been broken.

Blepharoplasty: Blepharoplasty is a procedure to modify the skin around the eye. There are different types of blepharoplasty: Asian, lower lid, or upper lid.
  • Asian blepharoplasty: Also known as the Asian double eyelid surgery, is used to create the appearance of a fold in the eyelid.
  • Lower eyelid: Lower lid blepharoplasty removes excess tissue and fat from under the eyes. The fat under the eye creates a puffy look, so removing the fat results in a much more refreshed appearance.
  • Upper eyelid: Upper eyelid surgery can be done for both cosmetic and functional reasons. If the eyelid hangs down too much, it can decrease one’s peripheral vision. For cosmetic reasons, the surgery will make the eyes appear more open and brighter.
Facelift: A facelift is a procedure where the skin is pulled back to reduce the sa
gging and wrinkles throughout the face. The surgical scar is strategically placed in the hairline so it will not be visible.

Brow lift: A brow lift is a procedure to eliminate wrinkles and frown lines on the forehead. It will also lessen the amount of sagging skin on the forehead and over the eyes. Non-surgical liquid brow lifts using injectables like Sculptra and Restyalne are also available.

Neck lifts: The neck lift reduces the amount of sagging that many experience as they age. By removing excess skin and fat deposits, after surgery the patient has a much smoother neckline.

Facial implants: Facial implants are used to enhance the contours of the face. Often, facial implants are used in the jaw, chin, and cheeks. They are used to aesthetically, or functionally, improve the proportions of the face.

Reconstructive surgery for Bell's Palsy and facial paralysis: Bell’s Palsy and paralysis of the facial nerves can have a severe impact on the way a person feels about themselves and can make every day activities more challenging. There are a variety of procedures available at La Peer to treat facial paralysis. It is best to discuss the options with a doctor as each person's paralysis is different.

Non Invasive Plastic Surgery Procedures

Injectables: Injectables are very popular because they are minimally invasive procedures with immediate, noticeable results. The most popular injectables are Botox, Dysport, Juvederm, Restylane, Sculptra and Radiesse. These all have different functions:
  • Botox and Dysport are used to temporarily paralyze muscles in the face to lessen the appearance of wrinkles. It is also used to reduce excessive sweating and reduce migraine pain. These injections last between 3-6 months.
  • Juvederm and Restylane are fillers to plump the skin or lips to give the face a more voluminous and youthful appearance. These injectables are often used around the mouth, in the lips, and in the cheeks. These injections last 4-6 months.
  • Sculptra and Radiesse are collagen stimulators. These injectables last for up to 3 years and help promote the creation of collagen in the face. These injectables are often used in the cheeks and temples to give the face a fuller appearance.
Lip augmentation: A lip augmentation makes the lips fuller and more voluminous. Most lip augmentations are done by injecting Juvederm or Restylane into the lips. This procedure is not permanent and the body will eventually absorb the filler. These fillers last between 4-6 months.

Laser Treatments: Cosmetic lasers provide truly amazing results when it comes to eliminating brown spots, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and redness. The type of laser used is dependent upon how much healing time is required and if there are other problems you may want to take care of. The healing time for these treatments can range from one day to over three weeks.

Ulthera/Thermage: Ulthera and Thermage are skin tightening treatments used to lift sagging skin. These are not exactly lasers, but instead they emit radiofrequency energy. These are traditionally used on those who do not want to have a facelift or don’t require a facelift. This will not have the same effect as a facelift, but provide fantastic results for those in their 40s and above who want a subtle lift and tightening.
